Information Guide on LVT Flooring Installation
LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile) flooring is a popular choice for homeowners because of its durability, affordability, and versability. Here are some general guidelines for installing LVT flooring:
- Pre-installation preparation: Ensure that the subfloor is clean, level, and dry before beginning installation. Remove any debris, dirt, or old adhesive from the surface. The subfloor should be level with no more than a 3/16” deviation over a 10-foot span.
- Acclimation: Leave the LVT flooring in the room where it will be installed for at least 48 hours to acclimate to the temperature and humidity of the space.
- Layout: Plan the layout of the flooring, considering any transitions, doorways, or other obstacles. Mark guidelines on the subfloor using a chalk or pencil line.
- Cutting: Cut the LVT flooring to size using a utility knife, straight edge, and cutting mat. Leave a gap of 1/4” around the perimeter of the room to allow for expansion.
- Adhesive: Apply the recommended adhesive to the subfloor using a trowel, starting in the corner of the room, and working outward. Spread the adhesive evenly, making sure there are no air pockets or lumps.
- Installation: Place the LVT tiles or planks onto the adhesive, aligning them with the guidelines. Use a rolling pin to press the tiles firmly into the adhesive and ensure a tight bond.
- Finishing: Once the adhesive has dried, remove any excess adhesive from the surface of the tiles with a damp cloth. Install any transition strips or moulding as needed to complete the installation.

Where can LVT Flooring be laid?
LVT, or Luxury Vinyl Tile, can be laid in a variety of indoor spaces. Its durability and water resistance make it suitable for high-traffic areas and spaces where moisture is present, such as kitchens, bathrooms, and laundry rooms.
LVT can also be used in commercial settings such as offices, retail spaces, and restaurants. However, it’s important to note that LVT should not be used in outdoor spaces or areas exposed to direct sunlight, as this can cause fading and other damage.
